The Academy
We aim to be the preeminent platform for individual player development
to continually develop and improve our methodologies in order to lead in the crafting of the United States’ best youth soccer players.
How we achieve it
FOCUS ON DEVELOPMENT
>
FOCUS ON WINNING
We believe that a focus on winning over a focus on development is incredibly detrimental to the growth of young players. We require our players to struggle and to fail in their pursuit so that they learn to fail better and develop grit. We train at the edges of our abilities because we believe, as Daniel Coyle posits, “struggle is not an option: it's a biological requirement” in order to reach potential. Understanding this, we know we have a tremendous amount of control over the developmental process.
TECHNIQUE CONQUERS ALL
We define technique as the ability to perform a physical task and skill as the ability to perform the technique under pressure, ie. in a game setting. With that, our focus is on individual technique acquisition and its transition into skill.
We believe the crafting of technique and skill is crucial during the Foundational period of player (age range 2-8), the phase which we consider to be the most important in developing a high level player.
Our science-based approach is heavily invested in neural pathway and procedural memory development and has demonstrated tremendous results since implementation.
PROGRESS NOT PERFECTION
While we strive for perfect technique, we subscribe to Socrate's Theory of Forms and its assertion of achieved perfection being physically impossible.
Therefore, our approach to technique and skill acquisition is based on improving every time the player puts touches on the ball. Progress, not perfection speaks to the player's specific intent on touch quality so that measurable improvement, a process monitored closely to the point that poor touches are immediately corrected, may develop.
Tired touches are not tolerated during Technique & Skill Acquisition (T&SA) sessions as we are focused on positive neural pathway development.
EFFICIENCY IN MOVEMENT
We prepare to prepare. We truly craft technique, which begins with developing the player's ability to control their body and improve their movement.
Tightening body control accelerates the ability to control the ball.
QUALITY > QUANTITY
Quality of repetition is more important than the quantity of repetition.
During the Foundational Period of a player's life, their brains are incredibly susceptible, which is why we strive to remove poor quality touches from our sessions.

How it started
In 2013 a group of sweet momma’s got together and decided that they were ready to be soccer moms! We rounded up enough three year old buddies to start a team and an awesome dad to coach. Coming up with a name was the toughest part. We let the boys and parents throw out suggestions and when DinoScores was eventually suggested, we knew it was the perfect fit for our tiny team.
Every 10 weeks since Spring of 2013 our DinoScores have taken the field for a new season. These boys became the best of friends and learned to love the game. While the boys were three, they were playing for fun but as they experienced success, the parents noticed they quickly became competitive which was immediately noticeable as they began keeping score on their own. As the boys grew up, so did our team. With adding siblings, friends, and kids that were interested in playing for the DinoScores after seeing the boys play, we then had expanded the DinoScores into four different teams, with kids from birth year 2013-2011.
The team began practicing, and as they did, their technique significantly improved. The team started to dominate in their league season after season. After seeing the success of the oldest DinoScores team in their league play the DinoScores played in a tournament and finished on top. They then moved up in leagues and were playing kids up to two years older than their team. The DinoScores were able to win the league, score 85 goals on the season, maintain the best goal differential, as well as win the league championship game in their first season in the older league. With the DinoScores success, we knew that the boys were ready for a more competitive atmosphere.
In order to enter the more competitive environment that was needed for the oldest DinoScores team we knew it was appropriate to develop AlphaForms. AlphaForms is the team that is formed from kids that are participating in Forms Academy. At the time this was originally written (06/2017), we currently rostered one AlphaForms 2011 and 2010 team.
Since then, we've grown to over 10 teams and continue to remain excited about the future development of our program.
